Barcelona is full !!!!
Bl***y parking nightmare …. We had 2 overnight over priced parking spots in Barcelona in our itinerary … Sorry sir NO space … So we headed for the docks .. No hookers this time but a parking space … Lorrys and us but beggers can’t be choosers if you wanna see the Gaudi church … Sighs .. had to get a cab who took us to the Gaudi museum .. Which have us 30 minutes walk to where we wanted to be. …sighs again … On arrival totally awe struck
Left Barcelona After the “NO spaces left in my carpark Madam” and headed for the beach south of the airport used only by local families who set up picnic tables at breakfast ,ate, laughed a lot , played cards as we left at 7 pm were just packing up after what looked like the perfect day out Spanish style … Free and quiet stayed overnight . Back to the ferry now for a 11pm sailing to find itinerant workers were off home to Tunisia …same ferry but next stop J guesses there must be 100 Vans, cars pack to the gunnels and then some … So top heavy with chairs .fridges . Bikes . You name it. . It’s on top of these vehicle ..and we have just see one with a kitchen sink on top I have seen vans piled like this in the Sub Continent but never in Europe .
We are now through one part of the security only to fall about with laughter as the piled high vans are being gone through with a fine tooth comb by the Civil Guard … Fridges are being removed from the middle of the heap and opened very entertaining …
Embarked and departed on time much to J surprise due to the seen chaos The people parked next to us in their lovingly self built horse box style wagon/campervan (later to find out it was an old TV outside broadcast van)had last week been left behind because they had been put in the wrong queue for Tangiers in stead of Genoa and watched their ferry sail off with out them …The boat is not so much of a ferry more a very aged cruise line ..very empty swimming pools but facilities such as cafe bar .. Dog deck .. All ok but one wouldn’t want to cruise on her .. Cabins is good after the room boy was called to clean bog .. As with all things J is an organised person bringing with him supplies … Water , instant cuppa mushroom soup and the kettle .. And a two day supply of ham mustard and tomato sandwiches.. So soup and one round of sarnies.. book and bed …with the force 5 westerly wind pushing up the Med we spent a very comfy night at sea arriving an hour early into Italy
We would like to thank Vee Eastham who emailed us with all the info to get us past France in a day instead of the long thrash on toll roads expensive and let’s not speak of the diesel we would have had to feed Hetty .. All in all it’s a win win situation .. Rested .. Read books .. Met interesting people .. And slept like logs ..
