Hetty’s maintenance …john’s post

Hetty’s maintenance schedule etc
Today Hetty was washed which was part of the storage/camping package. Now this is a big job and takes me at least 3 hours at home and I only do it a couple of times a year, but as the package could include a wash we took advantage as the wash bay was undercover leaving no streaks pretty essential in this heat and sun.
After the wash I did a few routine checks tyre pressures ..a bit low at the back and as we are always traveling heavy now as packed for the duration of our trip I boosted the pressures a bit with our power pack ,which then went on mains for a big charge we also mains charged all our other kit, I also checked for stones tyre condition etc.
Engine oil checked.. water and window wash checked. These are checked more frequently now as we are travelling greater distances plus recovery though covered by our insurance would probably be slow.
I then did all the windows including the roof lights Hetty is now better than when we left over 1,000 miles ago!
We averaged 29 mpg on the way to the ferry on UK motorways, the check for our Spanish drive so far is 31mpg pretty ..good for a 3.5ton Motorhome fully laden ..plus the diesel is much cheaper but we have not yet filled up at our target cost of €1.31 due to seeing these prices after we had already filled up at €1.35
The main reason for the full maintenance schedule today was to allow Susan to recover from our trip yesterday evening to see the religious parades . Over 4 hours of walking and strolling to and around Seville and back. We walked miles and Susan was absolutely knackered on our return after midnight and needs a days maintenance herself( oil the joints ,sand callouses off her feet etc) S here …cheeky bugger…
Our Hetty has reached her 70,000 miles today …a couple of week before Susan reaches her own 70 miles on the clock ….

  1. That’s good going on the MPG, what speed do you cruise at? we where only getting 33 mpg from my 1.9 tdi vw transport 5.

    1. We cruise at about 55 to 60 but the hilly steep hairpin climbs we are lucky to get 30 mph . Downhill I just coast and get as much free as possible the 2.5 turbo is a very good engine
