Easter in Sevilla

It was said in the blurb for motorhome parking lot that the walk into the centre of Seville was 15 mins They lied … It’s half an hour at a yomping speed .. But lots of stuff going on … People rushing to the first square .. So off we go .. The first parade was lining up .
Confadías (brotherhoods )these religious groups are called …Very sinister in the conical hats and faces covered with slits for eyeholes reminiscent of Klu klux klan outfits in USA ..
The group carried lit four foot long candles walking in twos with the altar bearers ..incense wafters and silver and gold crosses held high .. Then came the float The Virgin Mary .. Flowers ..Silver and more candles .. Carried as I thought by four chaps .. John says they couldn’t have carried it and it was an illusion and it was on wheels … Now that was the parade … Off the crowds of Sevillanos (Residents of Sevilla) went and we followed .. Up to Parque Marie Louis and again we had front row viewing … Police controlling but gently .. Ours was a bit of all right ( see photo)..

The show went on for an hour .. And finished at the Cathedral ..crowds dispersing as we made our way to a street side cafe for beer and food .. Ordering was very difficult as we had no idea what was what … So one dish looked bacony one cheesy … Yup bacon and Langustine and the other Camembert on crustini topped with walnuts and marmalade … A couple of beers and a walk through the Barrio de Santa Cruz ( judería ) the medieval Jewish quarter .. And we walked and walked .. Because of the excitement of the evening and being carried on the the crowds we had gone beyond our walking back limits .. Thank goodness for the map on IPhone I downloaded prior to leaving home ,,it took us a good hour at a good pace to get back to find the main gate locked … Telephone number to ring security .. He came in a large 4×4 .. Opened up and offered us a ride as it’s about another half mile … Well if you had seen me … Laugh … I had seized up and couldn’t climb into the back of this truck .. J pulled and pushed to no avail then offered the front seat which with a little more grace I managed to crawl into ..phew .. So glad to be back in Hetty .. We had underestimated the walk and in my view this camper park is too far out of town
