Magical Mogarraz

Saturday …We thought San Martin del Castañar was magical but nothing compared to little Mogarraz …another windy narrow nail biting road in the mountains …I am not good as a passenger never mind dare devil roads with a gorge on one side and no passing areas on the other …
Tiny winding higgledy pigglety streets ..over hanging eves in the sun …stairs leading to covered doorways …but ..what the guide books don’t tell you is the paintings above each house of the people who lived there in 1967 ..The whole population ,370 people are recorded ..The artist was Swiss and from what we could gather from one of the residents who was painted This man took photos of all the people …went off and returned with all the paintings which are mounted on the front of the each persons residence ….absolutely fascinating as one could pick out the people still alive and going about their business
In our estimation this is the best of the villages in this area ..see photos

This is the same chap 46 years later …his mother and sister are the other two paintings above his house

The chap with the hat is the artist who took on this mammoth task
